Another review for Axgio NEON N1

Announced earlier this Monday, Axgio’s new product Neon N1 packs the hardware of MTK6582 chipset, 5-inch 720P display, 1GB RAM, 8GB Nand Flash, and 8MP camera. Neonado 1.0 third-party system, which is the most well-known bright spot.

The good:  Neonado 1.0 system published with its sole aerial view, containing flash light’s switch, running list and memory’s cleaning switch. It really hit the sweet spot as Samsung sidebar and Iphone control center. Back cover bends gradually in a small angle, which performed as a perfect touch.
The bad:  N1 will suffer from a light fever as it’s been operated for some time. Android 4.2 and luxury themes consume power seriously.

The bottom line:  To compete with big brand cellphones in China, this second generation of Axgio opens up a new route. With a higher 8 GB’s ROM, N1 win by a narrow margin, compared to the very first Axgio W2. Surprisingly they are both with MTK6582 chipset and 1GB RAM. On a whole, it has various features as ordinary Chinese cellphones do. Nice and soft touching leaving a great impression to customers.

Design

When I take first sight of N1, its metal bezel is attractive, extremely thin and natty body shows the quality of the phone. N1 bears a striking resemblance to the design of the THL T6S -- especially the curved back case, which makes user easy to hold it, and the gap between back case and fuselage is narrow enough to prevent dust. I quite like this feel. It sits comfortably in my hand, though the edges of the fuselage are not smooth. The handset, headphone jack and charging pot of the phone set on the top, which have quite a premium feel, the speaker appears on the bottom. The power and volume rockers are on the different sides, easy to reach without any strenuous finger stretching. Such a standard size of N1 should fit into most pockets with ease.

Display

The 5 inch display has a 1280*720 pixels resolution. While that’s the same number of pixels you will find on the last model of Axgio. When you take N1 to compare with 1080p screens on Samsung S5 or Note 3, maybe you will feel a little meager, but you will find out differences alongside the screen with same resolution like DG2014. N1 can tackle small details on bright and dark spot of pictures. The colors of images remained true to show its original status, although N1's 294ppi display is just shy of the pixel density on other 1080P phone. It still beats most of 720P screen phones, so the display of N1 can get a good mark. Here is the picture about comparison between N1 and other 720P screen phones.

The mid one is N1
System

Now we begin to show you the highlight of N1, the customized OS Neonado, which specific optimize for MTK chipset, aims to improve using experience. Compare to other third party systems, Neonado breaks their common limitations. It is the only one customized OS supports multi languages, like English, Spanish, Italian, Russian, German, French and Chinese. Neonado bases on Android 4.2, but mainly inherits LEWA OS. Neonado offers a humane interaction. It has a whole suite of features you don't normally see on Android.

Instead of an app drawer, Neonado puts every app on the home screen just like IOS, but I much prefer to put my apps to the drawer, because when you install more and more apps on the phone, the home screen will become cluttered, users need to face difficulties of searching app they want to use. Besides, Neonado also has an aerial view screen, which gathers some small tools in the one interface, alarm clock, power manage, flash light and traffic monitor, just like Samsung side bar or iPhone control center. You can scan and clean up the memory via this screen.

The ability to customize how it looks is useful as well. You can easily load up the themes, or download a whole bunch of themes from the online themes store or Neonado forum, and if you're a big fan of MIUI, there's also a way to convert MIUI into LEWA theme file, which you can put it on the local theme folder, to enjoy the same using experience with XiaoMi.

Most of android phones supports 2SIM 2Standby, but it is inconvenient to use, on the contrary, Neonado makes efforts to this shortcoming, users can change 2SIM cards freely without extra setting. Meanwhile, N1 has completed GMS service framework, the same with Google Nexus series, guarantees original Google experience. Although the system has installed some apps like YouTube, Twitter and Whatsapp etc, users can uninstall them to provide more spaces for daily use. The most important things for customized OS are updates for system and ROM’s download, in this aspect, Neonado does a good job. It supports OTA updates, and several ROMs on Neonado forum offer to users to download. The last function I want to say is smart sensor, which you can answer the phone call without touching. On the whole, Neonado is a decent customized OS.

Performance

When you operate Neonado OS, you will feel smooth control sense, because the ROM of N1 is specific design for MTK chipset, better than other MTK smartphones with different operating systems, so Axgio N1 delivered decent performance comparable to other mid-notch mobiles. I started the AnTuTu benchmark and tested the phone, the final score is 16690, this result is reasonable with such average hardware level, 1.3GHz MTK6582 Quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM.The follow screenshots show details about benchmark.

Camera
The Neon N1’s front-facing camera only has 2 mega pixels, and 8-megapixel shooter sits on the rear, above the LED flash. The camera offers several features, like smile face mode, continuous shoot mode and Panorama mode etc. What’s more, the camera integrates some functions of third-party apps, like real time filter and weather seal, which makes you preview the effect of picture at once.

In normal mode, the quality of picture reaches the standard level of cellphone photograph. Especially the image with adequate light can show its smoothness. In smile face mode, the camera will catch your smiling face automatically Panorama mode is where I try most times, as it's admittedly pretty cool. In Panorama mode, you can compress the whole 360°view into a strip image.

Conclusion

The biggest advantage of Neon N1 is price, if you search for the phone with same configurations. You will find that it’s even $30 lower than other, so it is really a smartphone worth trying to get your hands on. Maybe N1 could not rank as one of the best smartphone with customized OS on the market. However, it should be a cost-effective choice for people who want to experience a new operating system. Now, N1 is in stock on their exclusive selling store TinyDeal.

NEON N1 Review - A new smartphone with customized OS Neonado

While Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Huawei and OnePlus are making waves at the high-end of the Android smartphone market, some of the lesser known Chinese brands tackle the low to medium. One newborn brand which aims to make products that improve people’s life is called AXGIO, several days before they have launched their first product WING W2, and recently we’ve read the news about the new smartphone from AXGIO, so today we will have a review about the phone NEON N1. It has officially released on TinyDeal on August 19th. Before now, the NEON N1 has spread as a rumor, and now this phone is come to the market and ready to challenge the other smartphone in the same price range, such as DOOGEE DG2014 and DG580.

Design and specs
The new AXGIO NEON N1 packs with 5-inch HD screen, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM (about 5GB – 6GB available) and powered by MT6582@1.3GHz quad-core processor. The design of the AXGIO NEON N1 was instantly familiar, and if you have ever seen the looking of THL T6S, it appears the phones are practically siblings -- only a few details such as the edge and placement of the speaker differ.

Its slightly curved back cover adds a unique element of style. NEON N1 uses an enchased champagne golden metal design with strong metal texture to reinforce the fuselage, instead of the plastic fuselage that we find in other smartphones. The back case seems to be matte texture, but if you touch on it the feeling is quite soft and comforting. Charging port and earphone jack are placed on the top, volume rockers are on the left while the power key is on the upper right (the most advisable place to wake up screen). In terms of the design we have to say that AXGIO does make an effort here.

Screen and Camera
The 5-inch, IPS HD display, which has a resolution of 1,280x720 pixels and 294ppi, is bright and vibrant and is usable even under bright sunlight at noon, it is not OGS but owe to G+G lamination, you can still have a nice touch experience when you slide and tap on the screen. Viewing from some images, we can conclude that colors reproduce well:

If you worry about the dazzling brightness at night, the OS contains the Night Mode to reduce the brightness, which can be customized to blackish, yellowish or reddish:

The camera app is from stock Android, when you open it for the first time, a short instruction flash will play, remember to watch it till end, because if you suspend the flash animation it will replay again the next time you start the camera – until you finish it.

The shutter is really fast, but image quality is average at best and depending on the lighting. The test shots are shown as follows, whatever it satisfies me, because I am not really that selfie lover:

Outdoor shot:

Indoor shot:

Macro

Night shot:

Software and experience
The customized OS is supposed to be the biggest bright spot of NEON N1, which is based on Android 4.2 and Lewa OS5, The customized OS is called Neonado OS, version 1.0.

First expression of Neonado OS 1.0 is also familiar, it will instantly remind you of the MIUI, but in details Neonado makes many differences, Instead of an app drawer, the Neonado places all your apps on the home screen, just like iOS. I guess this is a slightly better approach, since it requires one less action to get to your app. Neonado replaces the multitasking interface to an innovative interface, named Aerial View Screen - in this screen, you can not only manage the running programs, but also press the keys to clean up memory or turn on the torch, set up your alarm and power-saving mode, data usage and remain using time are also presented. The highlight is, if there are some of the running apps you do not want to kill, you can slide it to right, then it will be locked and remain running even if you press the clean up button.

Besides the Aerial View, Neonado OS adds the smart somatosensory settings, security center, key settings and notification bar settings, you are free to customize you notification bar, brightness of virtue keys, you can also manage the permissions of every Apps you installed – it is the best way to get rid of Ads.

Like MIUI, there's a theming feature, which lets you change the look of the UI. Changing themes is very simple to do. You can download custom themes on Neonado forum, or convert MIUI themes into Neonado themes aswell.

Another humanized design I want to highlight is the pull-down menu, the switches contains screenshot, QR code scanning, power+ mode and nigh mode. If you long press the switch it will jump to the correspondent setting interface – which I have never found on most OS, even TouchWiz.

Neonado is ported from Lewa OS, but here's the upside, AXGIO translates six system languages themselves, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Portuguese and German, preinstalls apps like Gmail, Play Store, WhatsApp, Facebook, Pinterest, Snapchat, Youtube, Twitter, Skype, Chrome, etc. So that’s very adorable to see a Chinese brand to try their best to improve user experience. (That’s what I appreciate most on the handset).

Performance and media
Operating in the launcher feels nice and smooth, and FPS meter totally keeps in 59-60fps, but as we see, NEON N1 positions on mid-level, so the processor comes with the average level of MT6582, whatever eMMC speed seems nice, the internal storage reading speed is the same as Class10 SD card. Here are some benchmarks:

I am not a games lover but I just install the hottest small game in China, and it runs totally smooth without lags, here I record it as videos:

From my point of view, it is a little pointless to watch 1080P video on handset, so I just test it with a 720P resolution movie using the default player, did not heat very much during the play:

Speaker is clear, ringtone is loud. Using the original earphone to answer calls and listen to the music, it exceeds my expectation, I recommend you to use Poweramp as music player, outstanding experience.

Battery and heat
As officially announced, the NEON N1 comes with a removable 1,800mAh battery, which lasted me through a day of moderate use with about 10% left once I returned home from work. I set up two email accounts and had Tencent QQ on push. If you're a heavy user, you may want to buy a back up battery – it is available on TinyDeal now. And with one day of use, I did not feel it heat too much, totally kept in about 30-35 - MediaTek always born with unbelievable power consumption technology, you can held it on your hand comfortably in the hot summer afternoon.

Conclusion
Price at an unbelievably low $108, AXGIO’s NEON N1 does deliver twice the value in features. It's quite possibly the best budget phone I've seen, and with its affordable appearance and accessories (PU leather case), makes this the best low-cost smartphone you can get today. Holding NEON N1 on my hand just makes me stand out of ordinary, it is very enjoyable when your friend and family ask you where you buy this unique phone.

Laude S800

Since the last smartphone produced by Laude, it has been almost three months. Although Laude won their fame and brand image for S500, they kept S500 this only product for their mobile phone product line during this time. Now, according to the latest news, Laude seems not that slow. Actually, their brand new model, the Laude Pulse S800 will be released any second. Rumor has it that the S800 still has the amazing price for its specifications.

From the specifications list, we can find the S800 is also a MTK6582 quad core Android phone. The 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM shows it’s entry-level location. The lack of LTE 4G network support is foreseeable, another source told us Laude is planning for the future MTK6595 product, which will have full support for the 4G/3G/2G network. The estimated price of Laude S800 is definitely lower than Laude S500, about $90. Then S800 is a functional device at a reasonable price.

When we meet the sample model, the S800 is impressive for its appearance. The screen part rises slightly above the rest of the frame, turning it seems floating on the phone. It reduces the pressure when hitting the ground, then less shatter of the screen panel. In most situations the phone will drop laterally, the bezels absorb most impact and transmit to the screen glass. So this design is indeed functional. The front camera near the top next to the earpiece and sensors is 2.0 MP. And you'll also find a typical set of three capacitive buttons at the bottom.

The volume rocker and power button line the right side of the S800. There's a 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB port on top. The S800 supports up to 32GB TF card. The gently curved back is minimal, featuring an 8MP camera with LED flash, noise-canceling mic and logo for Laude.
The full 850/900/1900/2100 MHz WCDMA (UMTS) and 850/900/1800/1900 GSM network supports told us the S800 will be available for almost all the carriers in Europe and America. It also supports Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, WiFi Display, GPS/AGPS and FM radio

For we’re not allowed to take away the model, we can’t test the battery life. It doesn’t show much different from the S500, but the 2200mah battery can work longer than S500’s 1900mah battery. Another point is, the temperature control didn’t let us down. Only when we tried the games it will feel a little warm on the back.

You knew we were eventually going to come across something that reminds us of the handset's price, right? Well, here it is: there's no double-digit monsterpixel sensor here, nor any trademarked imaging technology. Nope, the S800's main shooter is a modest 8 megapixels. The good news is: What the main camera lacks in resolution, it makes up for in versatility. It'll take some really nice shots in fairly unforgiving conditions. You probably know what we have to say about the 2-megapixel front-facing camera, as you've heard it all before: It's just fine for the odd, well-lit selfie or Skype call. Later we’ll update the sample pictures.

Considering the good price and the specifications, S800 is really an upgrade of S500, let alone the pretty shape. The only issue of S800 is, it has a slim chance to update to Android 4.4. But we agree that would be not a problem. When the most of the apps on Play Store has requirement for Android 4.4, Android L must have its several update already.
