NEON N1 Review - A new smartphone with customized OS Neonado

While Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Huawei and OnePlus are making waves at the high-end of the Android smartphone market, some of the lesser known Chinese brands tackle the low to medium. One newborn brand which aims to make products that improve people’s life is called AXGIO, several days before they have launched their first product WING W2, and recently we’ve read the news about the new smartphone from AXGIO, so today we will have a review about the phone NEON N1. It has officially released on TinyDeal on August 19th. Before now, the NEON N1 has spread as a rumor, and now this phone is come to the market and ready to challenge the other smartphone in the same price range, such as DOOGEE DG2014 and DG580.

Design and specs
The new AXGIO NEON N1 packs with 5-inch HD screen, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM (about 5GB – 6GB available) and powered by MT6582@1.3GHz quad-core processor. The design of the AXGIO NEON N1 was instantly familiar, and if you have ever seen the looking of THL T6S, it appears the phones are practically siblings -- only a few details such as the edge and placement of the speaker differ.

Its slightly curved back cover adds a unique element of style. NEON N1 uses an enchased champagne golden metal design with strong metal texture to reinforce the fuselage, instead of the plastic fuselage that we find in other smartphones. The back case seems to be matte texture, but if you touch on it the feeling is quite soft and comforting. Charging port and earphone jack are placed on the top, volume rockers are on the left while the power key is on the upper right (the most advisable place to wake up screen). In terms of the design we have to say that AXGIO does make an effort here.

Screen and Camera
The 5-inch, IPS HD display, which has a resolution of 1,280x720 pixels and 294ppi, is bright and vibrant and is usable even under bright sunlight at noon, it is not OGS but owe to G+G lamination, you can still have a nice touch experience when you slide and tap on the screen. Viewing from some images, we can conclude that colors reproduce well:

If you worry about the dazzling brightness at night, the OS contains the Night Mode to reduce the brightness, which can be customized to blackish, yellowish or reddish:

The camera app is from stock Android, when you open it for the first time, a short instruction flash will play, remember to watch it till end, because if you suspend the flash animation it will replay again the next time you start the camera – until you finish it.

The shutter is really fast, but image quality is average at best and depending on the lighting. The test shots are shown as follows, whatever it satisfies me, because I am not really that selfie lover:

Outdoor shot:

Indoor shot:

Macro

Night shot:

Software and experience
The customized OS is supposed to be the biggest bright spot of NEON N1, which is based on Android 4.2 and Lewa OS5, The customized OS is called Neonado OS, version 1.0.

First expression of Neonado OS 1.0 is also familiar, it will instantly remind you of the MIUI, but in details Neonado makes many differences, Instead of an app drawer, the Neonado places all your apps on the home screen, just like iOS. I guess this is a slightly better approach, since it requires one less action to get to your app. Neonado replaces the multitasking interface to an innovative interface, named Aerial View Screen - in this screen, you can not only manage the running programs, but also press the keys to clean up memory or turn on the torch, set up your alarm and power-saving mode, data usage and remain using time are also presented. The highlight is, if there are some of the running apps you do not want to kill, you can slide it to right, then it will be locked and remain running even if you press the clean up button.

Besides the Aerial View, Neonado OS adds the smart somatosensory settings, security center, key settings and notification bar settings, you are free to customize you notification bar, brightness of virtue keys, you can also manage the permissions of every Apps you installed – it is the best way to get rid of Ads.

Like MIUI, there's a theming feature, which lets you change the look of the UI. Changing themes is very simple to do. You can download custom themes on Neonado forum, or convert MIUI themes into Neonado themes aswell.

Another humanized design I want to highlight is the pull-down menu, the switches contains screenshot, QR code scanning, power+ mode and nigh mode. If you long press the switch it will jump to the correspondent setting interface – which I have never found on most OS, even TouchWiz.

Neonado is ported from Lewa OS, but here's the upside, AXGIO translates six system languages themselves, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Portuguese and German, preinstalls apps like Gmail, Play Store, WhatsApp, Facebook, Pinterest, Snapchat, Youtube, Twitter, Skype, Chrome, etc. So that’s very adorable to see a Chinese brand to try their best to improve user experience. (That’s what I appreciate most on the handset).

Performance and media
Operating in the launcher feels nice and smooth, and FPS meter totally keeps in 59-60fps, but as we see, NEON N1 positions on mid-level, so the processor comes with the average level of MT6582, whatever eMMC speed seems nice, the internal storage reading speed is the same as Class10 SD card. Here are some benchmarks:

I am not a games lover but I just install the hottest small game in China, and it runs totally smooth without lags, here I record it as videos:

From my point of view, it is a little pointless to watch 1080P video on handset, so I just test it with a 720P resolution movie using the default player, did not heat very much during the play:

Speaker is clear, ringtone is loud. Using the original earphone to answer calls and listen to the music, it exceeds my expectation, I recommend you to use Poweramp as music player, outstanding experience.

Battery and heat
As officially announced, the NEON N1 comes with a removable 1,800mAh battery, which lasted me through a day of moderate use with about 10% left once I returned home from work. I set up two email accounts and had Tencent QQ on push. If you're a heavy user, you may want to buy a back up battery – it is available on TinyDeal now. And with one day of use, I did not feel it heat too much, totally kept in about 30-35 - MediaTek always born with unbelievable power consumption technology, you can held it on your hand comfortably in the hot summer afternoon.

Conclusion
Price at an unbelievably low $108, AXGIO’s NEON N1 does deliver twice the value in features. It's quite possibly the best budget phone I've seen, and with its affordable appearance and accessories (PU leather case), makes this the best low-cost smartphone you can get today. Holding NEON N1 on my hand just makes me stand out of ordinary, it is very enjoyable when your friend and family ask you where you buy this unique phone.

Laude S800

Since the last smartphone produced by Laude, it has been almost three months. Although Laude won their fame and brand image for S500, they kept S500 this only product for their mobile phone product line during this time. Now, according to the latest news, Laude seems not that slow. Actually, their brand new model, the Laude Pulse S800 will be released any second. Rumor has it that the S800 still has the amazing price for its specifications.

From the specifications list, we can find the S800 is also a MTK6582 quad core Android phone. The 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM shows it’s entry-level location. The lack of LTE 4G network support is foreseeable, another source told us Laude is planning for the future MTK6595 product, which will have full support for the 4G/3G/2G network. The estimated price of Laude S800 is definitely lower than Laude S500, about $90. Then S800 is a functional device at a reasonable price.

When we meet the sample model, the S800 is impressive for its appearance. The screen part rises slightly above the rest of the frame, turning it seems floating on the phone. It reduces the pressure when hitting the ground, then less shatter of the screen panel. In most situations the phone will drop laterally, the bezels absorb most impact and transmit to the screen glass. So this design is indeed functional. The front camera near the top next to the earpiece and sensors is 2.0 MP. And you'll also find a typical set of three capacitive buttons at the bottom.

The volume rocker and power button line the right side of the S800. There's a 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB port on top. The S800 supports up to 32GB TF card. The gently curved back is minimal, featuring an 8MP camera with LED flash, noise-canceling mic and logo for Laude.
The full 850/900/1900/2100 MHz WCDMA (UMTS) and 850/900/1800/1900 GSM network supports told us the S800 will be available for almost all the carriers in Europe and America. It also supports Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, WiFi Display, GPS/AGPS and FM radio

For we’re not allowed to take away the model, we can’t test the battery life. It doesn’t show much different from the S500, but the 2200mah battery can work longer than S500’s 1900mah battery. Another point is, the temperature control didn’t let us down. Only when we tried the games it will feel a little warm on the back.

You knew we were eventually going to come across something that reminds us of the handset's price, right? Well, here it is: there's no double-digit monsterpixel sensor here, nor any trademarked imaging technology. Nope, the S800's main shooter is a modest 8 megapixels. The good news is: What the main camera lacks in resolution, it makes up for in versatility. It'll take some really nice shots in fairly unforgiving conditions. You probably know what we have to say about the 2-megapixel front-facing camera, as you've heard it all before: It's just fine for the odd, well-lit selfie or Skype call. Later we’ll update the sample pictures.

Considering the good price and the specifications, S800 is really an upgrade of S500, let alone the pretty shape. The only issue of S800 is, it has a slim chance to update to Android 4.4. But we agree that would be not a problem. When the most of the apps on Play Store has requirement for Android 4.4, Android L must have its several update already.

Axgio to Launch New Model N1 This Month, Strong Metal Design

AXGIO, aka the manufacturer of Wing W2, rumored to launch a new model called N1 this month. According to the leaked images, we will obviously find it totally different from Wing series

The design of both sides reminds me of P6 or P7. Slightly curved back cover adds a unique element of style. The enchased metal design with strong metal texture seems to reinforce the fuselage, instead of the plastic fuselage that we find in other smartphones. In terms of the design we have to say that AXGIO really made an effort here.

The new model has big difference in appearance, but the specifications are not announced yet, what should be confirmed is the running OS will be still their customized Neonado OS. The screen of AXGIO N1 rumored to be 5.0@720p, if true it is totally able to satisfy us, due to limitation of MediaTek, HD resolution is currently the most suitable for MTK chipset(on FHD screens there are always little lag with MTK, even MT6592). According to some of the leaked photos, brightness and colors looks very nice. We would also like to see some more contrast. From Wing W2 we can infer that screen will not let us down.

Going back to the OS, the appearance of Neonado adopted on behalf of the natural vitality of the green as the main color, with other colors, highlighting the simplicity and elegance. Plus, on common calls, text messages and contacts and other functions are also improved. Enhanced dual SIM dual standby experience comes with two modes of classic and speed. In daily use, its experience was outstanding.

The published information shows, AXGIO N1 seems to have a nice looking, improvement is still very large, more beautiful, emphasizing ease of use, what’s wondering are price and build quality, let’s expecting what this forthcoming star would bring to us.

THL 5000 Review

The THL 5000 is one of the first THL phones to be released that has actually made us stop in our tracks and say ‘WOW’. No the phone isn’t a Snapdragon fire breather, and no it isn’t the most beautiful phone in the world, but it certainly excels in one certain regard: battery life.

THL 5000 packs a gargantuan 5000mAh cell in an extremely compact 8.9 mm thin body. Yes, you read that right, that's 5000mAh -- a capacity worthy of even a large-sized tablet. Indeed, battery life has shot up to the top of the food chain as of late, and that makes a whole lot of sense, seeing how even hardware for the low-to-mid tier has become capable enough to drive Android and pretty much each and every app it has to offer. But what makes the THL 5000 even more enticing is its well-rounded specs sheet that leaves very little to desire.

Starting off with the display, THL 5000 equips with a now standard 5-inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution IPS dispaly with Gorilla Glass 3 on top for protection. The device is powered by a true octa-core MediaTek MTK6592T chipset, and making use of a very potent, quad-core Mali 450 GPU, MTK6592T, aka MT6592 Turbo, is the overclocked 2GHz version of MTK6592. There's also 2GB of RAM coupled with healthy 16GB of (expandable) on-board storage. The THL 5000 doesn't drop the ball in terms of camera, either, as it has a 13-megapixel Sony Exmor RS sensor (IMX135) with super-wide, f/2.0 lens at the rear, and a 5-megapixel snapper up front. In terms of extras, you also get an NXP audio amplifier for a better and richer audio output, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, FM Radio, OTG, and a wide array of practical features, including pocket mode functionality, smart gesture to customize quick shortcuts (e.g. draw a "C" to start the camera when the screen is locked), and others.

Going back to the highlight of the THL 5000 -- its 5000mAh silicon anode Li-polymer battery -- allows for such a small physical footprint due to proprietary tech that allows some 25% to 30% increase in capacity without a subsequent increase in size. What's more, the THL 5000 supports 1.5A Quick Charging, and can even be used to charge other devices. According to figures provided by THL, the unit is good for up to 1,000 hours of standby time, 47 hours of talk time, 11 hours of web browsing over Wi-Fi, 125 hours of music playback, and 11.6 hours of video playback. Now that's what you call endurance.

THL 5000 is currently listing and available on TinyDeal.com, priced at 269.99. We guess that there is much chance for THL 5000 to become the best all round smartphone in 2014.

More informations about Neonado OS

The OS of Axgio W2 and NEON N1 are Neonado 1.0, but there are still some user curious about Neonado OS, this article will give you more details.

In fact, the Neonado OS was developed not directly from the pure Android 4.2 but Lewa OS, which has been quite popular here on XDA-developers.

Now there are two customized operating systems specially optimized for cellphones powered by MTK chipsets, namely, MIUI and Lewa. The Xiaomi company conducted such optimization on MIUI because its low-end brand Hongmi adopts MTK6589 and MTK6592. Meanwhile, Lewa is a software company devoted to the localization of Android.

As the two redeveloped operating systems are mainly aimed at users in China, both of them only contain the Chinese and English packages as well as local app stores instead of Goolge Play

The contribution of Nenonado OS, to be simple, is that it is a re-internationalized Lewa OS. The new operating system contains the Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, and Russian languages besides English and Chinese; Google Play Store was preinstalled; and most globally popular apps are included, too, such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Pinterest, Skype, and Whatsapp.

According to a friend of mine from whom I get the chance to try the OS, Neonado was made by a company called Axgio, which is about to release its own MTK-powered cellphone for all over the world. Predictably, the phone will run on the Neonado OS -- after all, no company does something for nothing. The new phone is said to be named Neon N1, but I haven’t googled any information about it, or Axgio, or even the Neonado OS. So the story should be about a new company and its first product.

Apart from all the background information, the Noenado OS has the following features, most of which were inherited from the Lewa OS.

1. Compared with Lewa OS, the user base of Neonado has an expansion of billions thanks to the six language packages added.

2. Neonado relieves you from the burden of installing indispensable apps, especially Google Play. As for other preinstalled apps like Facebook and Whatsapp, you can uninstall as you will.

3. Visibly, Noenado is an overhaul from Android 4.2.

a. On the lock screen, you can slide downward with different buttons to the home screen, dial pad, or short message, respectively; sliding leftward or rightward, you start the camera; holding the home button triggers the torch; and local weather report is here, too.

b. Away from pure Android’s home screen plus launcher, Neonado’s home screens include only one layer, where you can drag an app to anywhere or overlap 2 icons to form a folder, pretty like the IOS .

c. Pressing the blank of a home screen and holding it, you see a menu rise up, containing many widgets. You can add one of them to the home screen by just a check, and the size of it is modifiable.

d. If you keep sliding rightward on the home screens, a special tray will finally come out. First of all, there is a list of recently opened apps here. You can kill one of them or by clicking the broom icon, kill them all to release the RAM. On the same icon, you can see the instantaneous usage of RAM anytime you need.

This tray is no doubt the real unique part of the Neonado or Lewa OS, a special part for saving. Besides the task killer, there are buttons for the control of mobile traffic and shift of power consuming mode.

We see from this tray that Lewa company has given great important to thriftiness. BTW, you can hold the home button to switch to the tray when you are in any app.

e. The dropdown canvas carries both the notifications menu and control panel. On the latter, the switches of 11 frequently used functions are listed, including the some fashionable ones like barcode scanner. Of course, this list is customizable – you can replace any of the switches by another in settings. (拍照1.notifications menu, 2. Control panel)

The notification function is very user-friendly -- you can add some apps to blacklist so that you won’t be notified any more when relative messages are delivered to you.

f. There are two places where you can find the key of screenshot, on the control panel or in the power off/reboot menu triggered by holding the power button. The control panel can be pulled down when an app is running, but a physical key shortcut would be more welcomed.

4. Some essential apps or functions are fantastically enhanced on Neonado.

a. You can add more information about a contact, including instant messaging ID, personal website address, and notes. A contact can be categorized into a group and only one click is needed to send a piece of message to all its members.

In the contact information page, you can choose either to make a voice call or write a message to the people, like what you do on IOS 7. Most specially, the check of call and message history is also enabled here.

b. Dual sim

c. A popular feature is that you can start answering an incoming call just by putting the phone near your ear without clicking the answer icon.

5. In China, the Lewa is well-known as a thrifty system in terms of RAM, power and mobile traffic consumption. From a three-day experience, I do feel this Neonado cellphone a little bit agiler than others with the same components, and the power saving effect is quite obvious.

In general, the Neonado OS has some spotlights that are easy to attract eyes, and I think many people want the rom to flash. But Axgio just sent some samples to cellphone sellers for feedback, and I don’t known whether and when it will release the ROM. Anyway, when the so called Neon N1 is sold, the OS won’t be kept in cell.
